CLICO made to pay

One of the companies owned by the financially-challenged CLICO group has been ordered to repay more than four year’s worth of premiums to a former client even after escaping a larger payout in a civil suit.

CLICO International General Insurance Limited, which Barbados TODAY reported this week was in negotiations to be bought by Barbadian interests, was sued by Grenada client Gita Kishore Kumar Pasupuleti back in 2006 in a matter that has reached resolution in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in 2010 with the insurance having to reimburse its customer turned adversary.

According to court documents accessed by Barbados TODAY, the court denied Pasupuleti’s claim against CLICO for damages for an alleged breach of the terms of insurance policies or alternatively indemnity or compensation... Read more...

    The Ministry of Transport and Works advises the public that the bridge at Joe’s River in St. Joseph has been reopened from August 5, to all traffic. The Transport Board has also resumed its normal bus service on that route. Motorists are asked to proceed with extreme caution as road works are still ongoing.     More than economy sealed resort’s fate
    Sandy Bay Beach Resort did not close simply because of the current economic crisis.     KINGSTON — The body of Corporal Vincent Bent was yesterday pulled from the Rio Cobre in the vicinity of the Gordon Pen community in St Catherine, hours after the policeman fell into the water while chasing a group of gunmen along the slippery bank.
